San Sebastian Sierra Madre Tour
Hidden in the Sierra Madre Mountains is the 17th century mining town of San Sebastian. Even though this former mining town is not very far from Puerto Vallarta, this historical mountain getaway is far from what the ordinary tourist will see in a resort such as Puerto Vallarta.
San Sebatian was originally settled in 1605 and reached its peak of prosperity in the 1700’s. Between the 1600’s and the 1930’s the town’s peak population of 30,000 people dwindled down as the gold and silver mines slowly stopped producing.
Today this beautiful village retains its colonial heritage and traditional ways of life in a remote Mexican village. The 600 residents now cultivate corn, agave (used to produce tequila), coffee and cattle ranching.
Our San Sebastian Sierra Madre tour begins with a 90-minute drive by air-conditioned van from Puerto Vallarta to the town of San Sebastián. As the road winds through the mountains, you'll enjoy extraordinary scenery and typical scenes of rural Mexican life, making the journey both breathtaking and relaxing.
Once there, we will explore this peaceful town’s main plaza with it’s Porfirian bandstand, 18th century San Sabastian church, 150 year old Hacienda Jalisco and one of the oldest commentary dating back to the 1600’s.
